Ken Hom reveals the best Chinese restaurants in London. And none of them are in Chinatown! That speaks volumes.
I highly recommend Wan Chai Corner on the corner of Gerrard Street. They do top notch roast meats and their prices are reasonable.

Nanna's Apple Sauce
Nanna made the best apple sauce ever. It was the highlight of my childhood Christmas dinners. Nanna always served pork and chicken instead of the more usual turkey. Her apple sauce was golden and chunky, and baked in the oven, unlike the traditional version which is made on the stovetop and is more like a puree.
Nanna's Apple Sauce
Ingredients
- 1lb Bramley apples
- 1 tbsp sugar, or to taste
- 1-2 tbsps water
Cooking Directions
- Peel the apples, and grate coarsely. Put the apples in a Pyrex baking dish. Stir in a little sugar and water. Cover with kitchen foil. Bake in the oven alongside the meat until the apples are tender. Serve warm or cold.

Chef's Knife
I've finally bought my first grown-up up knife. An 8-inch chef's knife from Lakeland.
It's still in the box! I'm afraid to use it - especially after seeing Gordon Ramsay badly cut himself on the Ellen Show.

| Sweet and Sour Chicken |
The sweet and sour chicken was divine with plenty of pineapple, crispy batter on the chicken and a delicious sweet, fruity sauce.
This rounded off a lovely afternoon of shopping during which I bought The Hairy Bikers' Asian Adventure which contains the recipes from their recent TV series.
